ReNED Conference: Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity
in Developing Countries
Parallel working group sessions
The participants will in the first aftermoon
session of the 17th August be divided into 3 parallel working groups. The groups
will have a pre-appointed chair and a rapporteur will be selected. Two
presentations will initiate the sessions after which 1 hour is set aside for
discussion.
The discussion will address the five key
concerns of the conference: (see objectives on the menu below for a full
description):
- The importance of biodiversity for maintaining the quality
and quantity
of ecosystem services
- The value of biodiversity in relation to ecosystem
services
- Sustainable financing mechanisms and community based management systems
- appropriate payment systems and institutional set-ups
- Biodiversity and ecosystem service monitoring
- Institutional capacity and good governance
The groups will within each (or within a
selection) of these questions prioritize:

Priorities for new research
- Priorities
for development assistance
The rapporteur will summarizing the conclusions
of each group and present these at the second plenary session in the morning
oif the 18th August. The summaries
of the rapporteurs will be included in the proceedings of the seminar.
